What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that you may experience a number of times a day. For example; 

Can you recall the last time you drifted away, daydreaming during an important meeting only to realise someone had just asked you a question? 


Reaching a destination only to question whether or not you remember passing a certain sign or road junction?

That’s hypnosis and its natural.

If it’s natural, why do I need a practitioner?

When you attend a hypnotherapy session, I as a practitioner, help to get you to this natural state. The great thing about this is we discuss beforehand the reasons why you want hypnosis, what changes you want to make, or whether you just want to relax while in hypnosis and then once you are there we work with your subconscious mind.

Why are you working with my subconscious mind?

You might have tried changing a habit or behaviour or vowed you would be more confident but found that it didn’t really work. That’s because your conscious mind works differently to your subconscious.

Imagine you want to start eating healthier. Consciously you make the decision because you know it’s better for you but the next day you are having a bad day at work and you reach for a cake or a bar of chocolate.

What can it be used for?

Hypnotherapy can help with so many things including; weight loss, smoking cessation, phobias, fertility, stress, anxiety, relaxation, hypnobirthing, regression and Bruxism (teeth grinding), Bed Wetting, improving performance or concentration

What can I expect?

Some clients liken hypnotherapy to meditation and a feeling of deep relaxation, some will remember hearing everything that is said and others may not. 

‘it is important to know that hypnotherapy is not a magic wand, you need to be committed to making a change as we work together.

What does it involve?

As with all treatments, an initial assessment will be conducted and I would explain what you can expect from the session including confidentiality, GDPR and suggestibility exercises. You can choose to ether lay on the treatment bed or remain seated in a chair. We will have discussed the reason for the session and consider any desired change or goal. The hypnotherapy can last from 15-35 minutes and I will use the time to speak to the client and also allow them periods of silence and relaxation. 

You are in control at all times and any suggestions within the session can be accepted or rejected, you are in control.


The contraindications for Hypnotherapy are psychosis and epilepsy that is triggered by relaxation. other medical conditions can present considerations and I may ask for GP advice before commencing treatment
